New Year's in Rio
The New Year’s festivities are all around tne city.
There are shows in different areas of Rio which enliven the turn
of the year.
Entrance is free, peace is absolute, and security is guaranteed.
To spend New Year’s Eve in Rio is to experience moments of joy
in a wonderful scenery with the additional advantage of being surrounded
by warm and friendly people.
Copacabana Beach - The greatest show of the year
There are four kilometers of fireworks exploding in the sky or
in the luminous reams on hotel façades and from different
barges in the sea. The people, mostly dressed in white, coming from
the four corners of the world, bid farewell to the year that is
ending and toast the arrival of the new year.
People from all social classes, side by side, in peace, in manifestations
that mix magic and devotion, devotees make offerings to Iemanjá,
the African Goddess of the Waters.
One of the largest fireworks in the world with about 15-minute
duration, illuminates the beauty of Copacabana Beach in various colors.
Two million people united by the incomparable spirit of Rio greet
each other, even if they are strangers, and walk in the direction
of the shore to make their offerings. Each one in their own private
ritual.

Hotels and restaurants present the most varied party options, with
menus prepared by great chefs or tropical buffets. Always entitled
to the greatest attraction: the magnificent fireworks display at
midnight, which illuminates the sky in different forms and colors.
Stages are erected the length of the beach at which live shows
take place.
It is undoubtedly the greatest open-air party in the world.
Titles Obtained by Rio de Janeiro 1 - Definitive headquarters of the ABAV Congress and Exhibition,
in Riocentro which was established as the biggest and best Conventions
Center in South America.
2 - In a research among readers of “Viagem” magazine
of Abril Publishers, Rio was chosen as the best Destination
in Brazil.
3 - The city of Rio was chosen, in a research carried out in two
American universities – the University of Michigan and
the University of California – as World Capital
of Friendliness.
4 - A research among the readers of Recommend magazine had Rio chosen
as best Honeymoon destination in South America.
5 - Condé Nast’s Traveller magazine included Copacabana
Palace Hotel and Caesar Park Hotel in Ipanema, both in Rio, among
the best hotels in the world. They were the only Brazilian hotels
on the list.
6 - Rio Carnival was elected by visitors of the Site Fun
Party as
the Best Party in the World.
7 – American QG magazine includes Rio as one of the ten best
places in the world to work according to foreign executives interviewed.
8 – The World Travel Awards gave Rio de Janeiro and RIOCENTRO
respectively the prizes for best tourist destination in South America
and best Conventions Center in South America.
9 – Travel Channel included Ipanema Beach in its famous list
of ten best beaches in the world, “The World’s
Best Beaches 2002.”
10 – Rio and Vuitton – Rio de Janeiro is the sixth city
chosen by the French enterprise Louis Vuitton for its series “carnets
de voyage”.
11 – Rio was placed among the best tourist cities in the world,
according to the readers of Condé Nast’s Traveller magazine,
Italian edition. It is the only Latin American city mentioned.
12 – Twenty four thousand readers of the English newspapers
The Guardian and The Observer chose, for their annual travel edition
in July 2003, Rio de Janeiro as their sixth favorite tourist destination.
13 – The August edition of the American magazine “Travel & Leisure” shows
the results of its 8th award “The world best awards 2003”,
a research made with 200.000 readers. Rio, is on the top of the list
in the category “Best Destination of Central, South America
and Mexico”. It is also the only in Brazil among the five best
ones.
14 - Sugar Loaf in Mars. Rio has received a tribute 200 million kilometers
away, in Mars! The Nasa Brazilian scientist Paulo Souza, named a Martian
rock, in the Guzev Crater, Sugar Loaf, after the Sugar Loaf Mountain
in Rio de Janeiro. August, 2004.
15 - Rio de Janeiro was elected The very best of South America Destination
by thousands of tourism professionals of 200 countries in December
2004. The prize was the World Tracel Awards.
16 - The very best of South America Destination. In the American
edition of the Travel Weekly magazine. Rio de Janeiro was elected
by thousands of tourism professionals in the USA. Published in the
December 2004 edition.
17 - The Canadian magazine En route, published by Air
Canada divulged
in November 2003, a curious research where Rio de Janeiro is rated
the Most civilized city in the world. The research index are the facility
of finding beer/soft drinks around, the quality of appetizers, the
look fashion of the natives, easiness to travel around and interesting
street life.
